Critical Role Campaign 4 Reveals the Soldiers Table

Since the launch of Campaign 4, fresh DM Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with deep backstory, a diverse cast of heroes, and a exciting storyline including celestial beings, demons, and dark forces expanding in influence within the city.

Heads-up: Spoilers for Episode 3 of this adventure lie ahead.

The Soldiers Table Unveiled

The third episode finished on a dramatic pause and presented the initial group of characters who will split off from the primary party to embark on their separate journey, apart from the additional parties.

This warrior group includes Teor Pridesire (brought to life by Travis), Thimble (Laura Bailey), the strong-willed figure (the cast member), Wicander (Sam), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie Daymond).

Why Split the Party?

Given an extensive roster, it was clear from the start that keeping everyone at one table would be impossible.

This explains, the opening chapters of the new season serve as an Overture, weaving together the characters’ stories before branching into three smaller tables: Warriors, Planners, and Explorers.

The Nature of the Soldiers Table

Per Brennan Lee Mulligan, the Soldiers table is for participants who are drawn to a classically intense combat and conflict-driven narrative style where non-violent answers are few and far between.

At first glance, figures such as the reluctant priest Wicander Halovar might appear out of place, but the developments of episode 3 show why these five characters are perfectly fit for the Soldiers table.

Motivations for Departure

For one thing, the team has a clear idea where to head next after a violent opening clash with the enemy group.

Casimir of Thjazi—whose death started the narrative’s action—used The Crow Keepers for his personal gain, entering the secret base, assaulting the character, and taking all the enchanted items to sell off.

The antagonist then settled his liabilities and escaped to a secure base in the remote area, above Dol-Makjar, with Cyd close behind.

Character Drivers

Secondly, each adventurer has a individual motive to exit the metropolitan area:

  • Thimble, as the companion and trusted friend, seeks retribution.
  • The knowledgeable figure knows the northern area and warns that it is a nasty place.
  • Tyranny and Wicander, having disobeyed his family’s wishes to eliminate the fighter and instead freed him, have nowhere else to go.
  • Yet, their position as prominent individuals in House Halovar could assist the team enter places they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Moreover, The grateful character pledged a unbreakable promise to The cleric for his salvation and will now go with him anywhere.

Pursued by Authorities

In addition, all of them are sought by the powers that control Dol-Makjar for a variety of reasons, making lingering locally dangerous:

  • The agile adventurer and Kattigan are recognized lawbreakers.
  • The strong figure and The healer turned against the influential house and the horde of evil beings they are aligned with.
  • The fighter is targeted for elimination by the family.

This leaves them no alternative but to travel to Timmony in pursuit of the antagonist.

What’s Next?

Based on the latest episode’s follow-up content, we learn that the warrior group will be absent next week, leaving the other eight participants to round up the Questers and Strategists groups.

Viewers can anticipate discovering which adventurers will be assigned to which table in Campaign 4’s last Overture episode, released on October 24.
